Falken Tires Grabs Three Firsts In The Great American Shortcourse Series Rounds 5 And 6
VICTORVILLE, CA – Falken Tires made its presence known during Rounds 5 & 6 of the Great American Shortcourse Series at the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds in Victorville, CA, last weekend. Driver Matt Brister took his Pro Buggy to first place in Round 6, while fellow Falken teammate Brian Cannon took first in his Mini-Open Class both days, and equally importantly, earned a third place in his competitive combined class that included Pro-Lite on Sunday. Both drivers ran on Falken Wildpeak A/T3W tires and are new to Team Falken this season.
Brister was a force to reckon with all weekend, qualifying first in class on Saturday by half a second. It was his first night race in over a year, but he “loved the track conditions as they were perfect for the Falken Wildpeaks we were running.” Though Brister ran strong for the majority of the race, he lost his lead due to a mechanical failure. “That was incredibly disheartening,” he added.
But a true racer never succumbs to gremlins for long. The next day, after modifying his shocks to increase handling, Brister qualified first again, took the green and led from the first cone on.
“After the competition yellow, that was the only time another buggy could make a move, but it didn’t stick,” Brister said. “We built another gap over the entire field and took the win. Unfortunately, we lost the points lead – we’re behind by five – but we’re within striking distance and ready for the remaining four rounds.”
Cannon’s class of Mini-Open was combined with the next level up – Pro Lite – making for a very competitive group of vehicles and drivers. Cannon qualified first in his class both days, but because he had been added to the Pro Lite entries, he was forced to start from the rear. He finished first in his class, and fifth overall on Saturday after suffering a power steering belt failure. But he came back strong, with the belt back in place on Sunday, and this time, took first in his class and third overall among the Pro Lite entries.
“All weekend the truck was pretty amazing, and my Falken Wildpeaks were hooking up great,” Cannon said. “I was really pleased with the results.”
“We’re very excited about what both Matt and Brian have done as part of Team Falken,” said Doug Fletcher, Falken’s Supervisor, Light Truck and Off-Road Events. “This series – GAS – is very focused. Their goal is to help keep short course racing alive, and to successfully grow the sport to new heights. Falken Tires is a huge fan of this race series and we’re glad to have Matt and Brian represent us on the track and through their various promotional efforts. Judging by the crowd here, the fans are extremely enthusiastic and appreciative of everyone’s involvement.”
Rounds 7 and 8 will take place October 1-2, 2022, at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino.
