Falken Tires Weighs In With Strong Results From ULTRA4 King Of The Hammers Week
JOHNSON VALLEY, CA – The 2021 Team Falken race season has begun with sound results from the annual ULTRA4 King of the Hammers (KOH) race week in Johnson Valley, CA, as Falken drivers earned podium finishes as well as scored points toward their respective runs to a national title.
Multiple races were run throughout the week when teams, entrants and fans congregated in Hammertown from January 30 - February 6th for the 14th running of KOH. Falken Tires, a subsidiary of Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd., had a full complement of teams on site. Among them was Josh Atteberry and his Kracker Fab crew, who took a Falken livery-wrapped Volkswagen Bug, running on WILDPEAK M/T tires, to the tough race course to compete in the new Class 11. With 16 drivers entered, Atteberry finished fifth, having little seat time in his vehicle, but relying on his strong experience in the Every Man Challenge (EMC) from the past two years.
The EMC race – one of the week’s most popular and most competitive with 134 entrants fighting for a podium position in their respective class – saw Falken’s Jon Schaefer and his RPM Extreme racing team leave in the 107th position running in the 4600 Class on WILDPEAK M/T tires. Despite suspension issues, the team was able to make functional repairs, helping Schaefer and his Jeep Cherokee JK ultimately finish the race, taking second in the 4600 Class.
In the 4500 Class within EMC, new Falken Team member Justin Hall departed the starting line in 20th position and ran well in his Falken livery-wrapped Rock Hard Racing Suzuki Samurai until it broke a belt tensioner. Returning to the main pit – with Hall’s engineer holding the pieces together – his team made repairs and Hall charged back up the leader board – racing hard on his WILDPEAK M/T tires – to finish 4th in class.
Finally, Falken’s newest driver, Brian Trempe, competing in his first EMC race in his custom-built Class 4800 race car, finished in the 22nd position in the class with the most entries. The active military racer was determined to finish and achieved his goal.
“We applaud all our Team Falken drivers for their solid efforts as this week of racing brought a lot of pressure in addition to incredible competition,” stated Falken Tires’ new Supervisor of Light Truck and Off-Road Events Doug Fletcher. “ULTRA4 has done a great job making this event a challenging one with an incredibly tough course layout, and naturally, off-road racers want to be a part of it. It’s a great start to our season. Stan Williams, Falken’s Off-Road Specialist, and I along with the rest of the Motorsports team look forward to having everyone on Team Falken score well throughout this year running on our WILDPEAK tires.”
