Team Falken’s Justin Pawlak Takes Second Place At Formula Drift Round 4 In Monroe, Washington Doubleheader
MONROE, WA – This past weekend, Team Falken traveled to the “Throwdown” in Monroe, Washington for the second Formula Drift doubleheader of the season, where Justin Pawlak celebrated a 2nd place finish in Round 4 on Sunday.
Running his new Roush-upgraded Ford Mustang, Pawlak was strong all weekend. Qualifying was modified at Monroe, as it was at the previous event, where the winner from Round 2 drew a number between 2-15 and the bracket was seeded by inverted order, according to points standings. As a result, Daijiro “Dai” Yoshihara was 2nd; Pawlak, 10th; Matt Field, 12th; and Aurimas “Odi” Bakchis, 14th.
All four moved through the Top 16, but Dai defeated Pawlak in the Top 8 and finished with an “honorable mention” of 4th at the end of Round 3.
All teams – which ran consistently on Falken’s AZENIS RT615K+ tires throughout the weekend – returned on Sunday for Round 4. Again, the qualifying was seeded, so Bakchis was placed 3rd; Field, 8th; Pawlak, 9th; and Yoshihara, 11th.
Pawlak was on a tear all day long, but ended up losing to Vaughn Gittin Jr. in the final round after a One More Time (a OMT is requested by the judges when the previous run was too close).
It took some time to get this new car dialed in,” said Pawlak, after earning his 2nd place finish. “But we really shined on this track, and the team worked really hard. Big props to my crew. For how crazy 2020 has been, this podium definitely offered a bright spot. I couldn’t be happier, and I appreciate the support from Falken, as always.”
“It’s great to see Justin back on the podium. This strong finish also moves him into 4th in the Championship which puts him only 40 points behind 1st place” added Steve Wong, Falken’s Supervisor, Passenger Car Motorsports & Events. “It’s a shame we can’t have our dealers and fans here, but having them livestream from home is definitely the next best thing.”
Following the Throwdown results, Team Falken championship points rankings list Pawlak in 4th; Bakchis in 6th; Field, 8th; and Yoshihara, 12th.
Rounds 5 and 6 will be held in Dallas, Texas, October 30-November 1.
